Literature

We are currently calling for submissions.

We are seeking to publish original fiction, poetry, and nonfiction (essays/memoirs) that are relevant to the Asian in America experience and community. All authors, voices, and perspectives are welcome to share on the subject. Stories, poems, and essays may be written in any form (traditional, experimental, etc.) that you think is best suited to its purpose. If you are unsure whether your work fits our criteria, but think it might, please feel free to submit anyways. We’ll be happy to consider it and let you know.

Please review the following guidelines before sending us your work. Submissions can be made through the email address below. Thanks a lot, and we look forward to hearing from you!

Word Count

Fiction and nonfiction should be between 2000 to 8,000 words (preferably ~4000). Poetry can be any length. We will not consider any stories or essays over 8,000 words unless we feel it’s absolutely exceptional.

Reprints

We do not accept reprints at this time, only original works that have never been published online or anywhere else.

Submissions

Please only send us at most one (1) work in each of the three (3) categories (fiction, poetry, nonfiction) per active submission (e.g. you can submit a story and a poem together in one submission, but not 2 stories at one time).

In other words, we do not accept multiple submissions, but you are always welcome to submit again once we have responded to your prevision submission. Of course, you may query us at any time to check the status of your submission. We try our very best to keep our response time to under one month.

We allow simultaneous submissions but ask that you notify us if your work is accepted for publication elsewhere.

If you use Duotrope or The Submission Grinder, we encourage you to favorite us and report on your submission.

Formatting

All manuscripts should be in standard manuscript formatMost importantly, manuscripts should be double-spaced, in 12 pt standard font (e.g. Times, Arial, Courier), and have page numbers.

Poetry can be formatted any way you want.

Publication Rights

We ask for First World Serial Rights, First World Electronic Rights and Exclusive Rights for 90 days. All rights revert back to the author after 90 days.

We also ask for Non-exclusive Audio Rights, which gives us the right to publish an audio podcast of the work if we so choose.

We kindly request permission to archive your work on our website. All published works will automatically be archived unless you tell us not to archive.

If we accept your work, we may make line-edits for grammar, punctuation and clarity. You will have the opportunity to review and discuss all edits with us before the final version of your work is published.

For any questions on your rights, please first take a look here. If you have further concerns, please reach out to us. We’re happy to help.
